Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Aggies score five unanswered in final seconds to best Southeastern Oklahoma, 82-81

DURANT – Cameron led for only two minutes but it was the final 12 seconds that mattered after a game winning three pointer by Jade Herl took down Southeastern Oklahoma, 82-81, on Monday night in Durant.  The win for Cameron moves them to 2-6, while the Savage Storm goes to 9-2 in non-conference play, and it is the first win for CU against a SEOU team since 2010.

Herl hit a season high five triples, with 19 points to pace the Ags in the victory.   Cameron was aided by 16 offensive rebounds and 18 second chance points; Jazzmine Robinson helped out with a double-double, by grabbing 12 boards and 12 points.  DJ Vallier matched her Aggie career mark with 10 rebounds.

"They did a great job tonight," said head coach Tom Webb.  "We played with great mental toughness and I'm proud of our bench if they didn't go out there and fight for each rebound and possession, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to get the job done.

"This was a great way for us to close out before the holiday break."

Southeastern Oklahoma broke a 14-14 tie with a seven point run in the first half and maintained that advantage into the intermission.  Cameron trailed as many as 11 points with 6:40 left in the first half but a nine point run put the Aggies back a pair, 41-39, with just under four minutes left half.  However, CU would be silenced from the field for the remainder of the half and it would be a 44-41 Savage Storm lead.

Herl paced the Ags with 10 points as they would shoot 38.7 percent from the field, but 45.5 percent from the arc; Southeastern Oklahoma shot a hot 64.3 percent from the field.

Cameron continued to trail Southeastern Oklahoma through the second half and led by nine, 79-70, with 4:08 left in the game.  Herl gave Cameron a chance with back-to-back three pointers in the next three minutes to get CU behind by three.  A pair of Savage Storm free-throws pushed them ahead by five with 36 seconds remaining.

Charron Montgomery hit a free-throw and a jumper to get CU a pair back with 17 seconds to go and in the next possession Robinson had a game changing steal and dished the ball out to Herl in what would be a game winning trey.

Cameron shot 41.5 percent as a team but their bench would grab 26 points, eight more than the Savage Storm who shot 51.7 percent from the field.

Brandi Leal knocked down 12 points, and Montgomery added 14 for CU.

Southeastern Oklahoma was led by Emily Williams who had a game high 34 points.

Cameron will be idle until Jan. 3 where they will host Northwestern Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
