LAWTON – The Cameron University women couldn't slow down Southwestern Oklahoma in the second half falling 82-68 in their home opener on Saturday afternoon.   With the loss to the Lady Bulldogs the Aggies will fall to 1-6 overall, while SWOSU will move to 2-4.
Jazzmine Robinson paced the Aggies with 27 points, four short of a career high that she reached last weekend in Canyon.
"We seemed like a young team, and what I mean by that is not by sophomores and juniors…just as far as not playing experienced at times," said head coach
Tom Webb. "We talked about it in the locker room is that I can't call timeout every time that something doesn't work out in your favor."
"It's my fault, I've got to find a better way in practice to make sure that they are ready to play."
After trailing for the first 4:30 of the contest, Cameron overtook Southwestern Oklahoma with a
Charron Montgomery jumper to take an 8-6 lead.  The Aggies maintained a possession lead of the Lady Bulldogs until a quick four point run by SWOSU tied the game at 23 with 5:19 remaining in the half. Both teams traded the lead until the Lady Bulldogs snapped a 30-30 tie with a five point run to end the half to go into the locker room with the lead.Â
Cameron shot 50 percent at the half with Robinson leading her team with 10 points; Southwestern Oklahoma hit 48.1 percent on their end of the floor with Kimmi Sawatzky also having 10 points. Â
The Aggies opened the second half with six unanswered points to retake the lead in the first two minutes. However, the CU lead was short-lived and the Lady Bulldogs went on a four point run of their own to retake a 39-37 lead for the last time at the 17:07 mark.
As a team, Cameron shot 45.8 percent but went 3-19 from beyond the arc;
Cristina Soriano was the only other Aggie in double-figures with 12 points. Southwestern Oklahoma went 51.9 percent on their side of the court with Jessica Penner leading all shooters with 21 points, and three others in double-figures.
SWOSU edged CU 30-29 in rebounding, with the Aggies committing three fewer turnovers with 15 overall.
The Aggies will be off until Dec. 15 where they will travel to Durant to face Southeastern Oklahoma.
