LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron tennis teams finished with mixed results on Monday afternoon at Streich-Henry Tennis Complex.
The Cameron women snapped a short two match skid to beat the Mavericks 7-2, while the Aggie men saw a 15 match home winning streak come to end with a 5-4 loss to CMU's men.
Cameron's last loss at home took place just over two years ago on March 15, 2012 against Abilene Christian. Additionally, it was only the second time this season the Ags have fallen to a NCAA Division II program; their other three losses were to Baylor, UT-Arlington, and Incarnate Word, all which were Division I losses.
The Cameron men fell behind early to Colorado Mesa after dropping the one and three slots,
Rory de Boer and
Felipe Oyarzun were CU's lone doubles win with an 8-2 victory in the two slot.
In singles it was an off day for the Aggies as they would fall in the top three slots for the second time this season for the 5-4 loss.
Despite the loss, Cameron took the four, five and six slots with
Dean Weigelt winning his tenth match in a row over CMU's Trevor Brown, 6-0, 6-3.
On women's side it was the Aggies taking a 2-1 match advantage over the Mavericks out of doubles with wins in the one and two slot.
In singles, Cameron swept the one through five slots for the 7-2 match victory.
Samantha Wood moved to 11-2 overall this spring in singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win in the three slot over CMU's Shannen McNamara.
Paula Gutierrez-Casas cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the two slot after beating Kaylee Davis for her 10 singles win of the season.
The Cameron women moved to 11-2 overall while the Aggie men fell to 12-5.
Both teams will be in action on Tuesday with the men's team hosting Southwest Baptist and the Aggie women playing Tarleton State in Lone Star Conference action.
