Wichita Falls, Texas – The #17 Cameron University men's tennis team would come up on the losing end of a 5-1 match to #18 Midwestern State on Thursday evening.
CU's match with MSU was a battle of the two top teams in the South Central Region with the Mustangs in the one lot and Cameron in the two slot. Weather in the late afternoon slowed the competition with rain moving into the Wichita Falls region delaying the match and later moving it indoors. The Aggies also were playing shorthanded without their number-2 player,
Rory de Boer, forcing CU to adjust its doubles pairings and singles lineup.
The shifted lineup didn't work out for the Aggies with their only one win being recorded in the two-slot in doubles with
Dennis Merdan /
Joao Fazendeiro edging out a 9-7 win.
CU's victory in the number-two doubles slot would be their only win of the day after both teams decided to play to five. The Ags would drop their top three singles slots in order and fall 5-1 to their rival Mustang counterparts.
With the loss Cameron drops to 16-8 overall, and they will quickly turnaround and host UT-Permian Basin on Friday at noon.
