WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Cameron University women's tennis team fell match short of a singles comeback to Midwestern State after falling 5-4.
Tuesday's match with the Mustangs was a winner take all for the Lone Star Conference regular season title and for the top seed in the upcoming league tournament in Southlake, Texas. Cameron will be the number-2 seed and face either Tarleton State or Texas A&M Kingsville in the opening round next weekend.
Cameron fell behind early after getting swept in doubles to allow MSU to take the 3-0 lead.
The Aggies did rally as they took the two, three and four slots.
Samantha Wood came back from a 6-2 loss in the first set and won the next two sets 6-1, 6-4, and
Florencia Tornero split the first two sets before sweeping set three to win, 7-5, 4-6, 6-0.
Cameron got their fourth singles win the six slot with
Magdalena Kovinic responding back from a 6-0 loss in set one to win her next two sets 6-4, 7-5.
With the loss the Aggies move to 16-5 overall and end their conference season at 2-1, they will quickly turnaround and host UT-Permian Basin on Friday at noon.
