Cameron's streak snapped at five with loss to Midwestern State

LAWTON – Cameron's five game winning streak came to an end after falling 79-70 to Midwestern State in front of over 1,400 fans at the Aggie Gym on Saturday afternoon.  With the loss to Mustangs, Aggies will drop to 9-8 overall and 6-2 in league play, while Midwestern will move to 16-3 and 7-2 in the LSC.

The Aggies will also lose their top spot in the LSC standings and will at either be a half game back or a game back of first with eight regular season contests remaining.

Jazzmine Robinson had a game high 22 points and added 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season; Charron Montgomery came away with 14 and Brandi Leal added 12.

Both teams shot 44 percent from the field and MSU edged Cameron by one in rebounding with 36; the difference at the end of the night was at the charity stripe with the Aggies going 40.9 percent (9-22) and MSU shooting 75 percent (21-28).

Midwestern State had four in double-figures with Lisa Hampton leading her squad with 21 points.

"I think we have shown how good we are, but now you have to take care of business in the game," said head coach Tom Webb. "Our kids understand that...the effort was great and I thought our kids played extremely hard until the end and we will take that."

"We will get there, we get them (Midwestern State) one more time this year. It'll be a good game when we go down there, but we just have to move on to the next one."

The Aggies kept things close with the Mustangs early but after an 8-7 CU lead, MSU scored nine unanswered and Cameron never could get within three possessions of Midwestern.   Cameron shoot 46.4 from the field, but were limited to only one three pointer, and went 3-10 from the charity stripe.  Midwestern State took an 11 point, 41-30 advantage with Hampton who knocking down five treys before the intermission.   Jazzmine Robinson paced CU with 11 points and three rebounds.

In the second half, MSU continued to stretch out their lead to 18 points within the first four minutes.   However, CU started to show some spark on the offensive end and cut the Mustang lead in half by the 11 minute mark after a Robinson layup to make it a 56-47 ballgame.   However, Cameron would have a difficult time getting closer until Leal knocked down her third three-pointer of the game to get within eight (75-67) but with 30 seconds remaining.    The Mustangs would ice the game at the line to beat CU by nine points.

Cameron will remain at home to face Texas A&M-Commerce on Feb. 4 for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

"We have a big week next week. We have a three game swing again, and we have to take care of business at home," added Webb.
