OKLAHOMA CITY – In their first match of the spring, the #20 Cameron men's tennis team beat Cowley County College 7-2, getting victories in all six of their singles matches, and one victory in doubles.
Dennis Merdan got a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win in the #1 singles slot, while
Joao Fazendeiro won 6-0,6-2 in the #2 spot.
Mateo Velasco made his Cameron debut and got a 6-4,6-1 win in the #4 spot, and
Angelo Lencioni and
Felipe Oyarzun won both of their matches 6-0,6-4.
Artavazd Knyazyan won in three sets in the #3 singles spot 7-5, 2-6, 10-7.
In doubles, the pairs team of Merdan and
Andres Velasco lost 9-8 and the team of Fazendiero and
Iustin Baciu lost 8-3. The pairing of M. Velasco and Oyarzun got the only doubles win of the afternoon for the Aggies, winning 9-7.
The 2-0 Aggies will take on Oklahoma Baptist in their next match on Feb. 17. Cameron bested the Bison 7-2 in their match in the fall.
