LAWTON – The Cameron baseball team split their double header with Northwest Missouri State on Friday afternoon, taking game one 5-2 in seven innings, and falling in the nine inning contest 5-3. The Aggies move to 2-4 on the season, while the Bearcats are now 2-3.
Cameron tallied just nine hits in the double-header with

The Aggies got on the board first in game one, as Colgan drove in three runs on a triple to left center in the bottom of the second. He was then driven in by
Tyler Palmer to put CU up 4-0.
Northwest Missouri threatened to break the game open in the top of the fourth, loading the bases with no outs. However, they only managed to push across two runs to cut the lead in half as pitcher
Codey Upton worked out of it to avoid a disaster inning.
CU responded in the bottom of the fourth as

Upton went the distance for the Ags in game one, giving up only one earned run on five hits and striking out seven in his seven innings of work for his first win of the season.
Game two started out slow, as only one hit was tallied through the first three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Cameron put the first run of the game on the board after loading the bases on a pair of Bearcat errors and a walk. McKinzie then drove in the first run of the game by drawing a walk, which was followed by a Palmer sacrifice fly to put CU up 2-0.
Northwest Missouri responded in the top of the fifth, pushing across two runs on a two run homer by Nick Gotta to tie the game at two runs apiece. However, Cameron took back the lead in the bottom of the inning as
Haydon Bogard beat out a bunt single, moved to second on sac bunt, tagged up on a fly ball to right, and then scored on a single by
Matt Nilmeyer, who was thrown out at the plate to end the inning two batters later.
The Bearcats took their first lead of the day in the top of the sixth inning, as Derek Meyer singled in a pair of runs, giving them a 4-3 lead. They added another on a Gotta RBI single to make it 5-3 after five and a half innings. Cameron threatened in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases, but could not capitalize.
Both teams would be held scoreless in the final three innings to give the Bearcats the 5-3 win.
Matt Kennewell was credited with the loss after giving up two earned runs on two hits in just a third of an inning.
Deven Youngstedt kept the game close towards the end, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts in his three innings of work.
