Cameron sweep doubleheader; take series over Bearcats

LAWTON – Cameron took the final two games of a four game series with Northwest Missouri State by winning game one 6-1 and later the nightcap 9-4 on Saturday afternoon.  The Aggie took the overall series after splitting the Friday contests and they will go back to .500 with a 4-4 overall record.

Cody Knight came up with a big two RBI double and Justin Winters had three RBI in the first game, while Codey Upton had three hits and a pair of RBI, with Nate Hale and Jonathan Reyes both having two RBI games in the final game of the contest.

Cameron batters knocked in 17 hits and 15 runs in the two games.

Dirk Masters needed 98 pitches in game one and tossed a two hitter against Northwest Missouri State who led through the first half of the contest.   The Aggies tied the game at one each thanks to a Brandon Wright double down the left field line in the home half of the fourth.  However, it was a five run outburst in the next home half that put CU over the top. Knight entered the game as a pinch hitter and hit a towering double to center field to score Nate Hale and Matt Nilmeyer.   Later in the inning, Justin Winters joined in on the double parade with a bases clearing double to give the Ags a five run advantage.

The win was Masters' first of the season and he would punch out five Bearcat hitters.

Northwest Missouri State struck first win a run of the opening frame of the nightcap.  Cameron quickly evened up the score in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a heads up play from Hale to score off an infield fly.   However, an Aggie error opened the door for the Bearcats to scoring three unearned runs and a 4-1 lead.

Cameron plated a run in the second inning off a Jonathan Reyes fielder's choice to get them back two and in the third but Justin Winters and Upton hit RBIs to put the Aggies up for the rest of the contest.   They would get an insurance run in the fifth before Hale hit a two RBI double, and Reyes knocked in a RBI single for their ninth run.

Bryan Belote (1-0) went five inning and gave up four unearned runs, with six strikeouts recorded.

Cameron will start a 10 game road trip starting with a three game non-conference series at UT-Permian Basin next Friday.
