Aggies fall 6-5 to TSU on a walk-off homer

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Despite holding a two run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth the Cameron baseball team gave up three runs in the final half inning and lost 6-5 to Tarleton State on the road. The loss drops CU to 7-12 overall and 1-7 in Lone Star Conference play.

The Aggies had a season high 14 hits in the contest with Nate Hale providing three of those and Jonathan Reyes, Justin Winters and Tyler Palmer each adding a pair of hits.

After the Texans scored a trio of runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Aggies were able to tie the game in inning number two with three of their own. Palmer drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and then Hale doubled in Winters for the second run of the inning. Hale then scored on a throwing error to tie the game at three.

Cameron put a two spot on the board in the top of the fourth, as Hale recorded his second RBI of the ball game on a single to center. Tyler West then drove in a run on a sacrifice fly of his own to make it 5-3 in favor of the Aggies.

Both teams were held scoreless through the next five innings, until a pair of TSU singles put runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the ninth. The Texan's then got a pinch hit three run walk-off homer from Brandon Villeneuve to end the game.

Codey Upton started the game for CU and gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Jordan Dailey gave the Aggies two perfect innings in the seventh and eight as he struck out four TSU batters. Logan Fanning got the loss, as he gave up the three runs in the ninth.

The win gives Tarleton State an 8-6 record overall and a 2-2 league mark.

Cameron will be back on the field on Saturday as they will face the Texans for games two and three of the series starting at 1 p.m.
