CU forces split at Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Cameron snapped a four game skid and salvaged a split on Saturday afternoon after winning the night cap 9-5 over Tarleton State; the Texans would win game one in a low scoring 2-1 ballgame.

The win for Cameron in game two was their second Lone Star Conference victory in nine chances and moved their record to 8-12 overall and 2-7 in league play.  Tarleton State will go to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in LSC action.

In the first game, The Aggies and Texans were caught up in a pitcher's duel through 4 1/2 innings before Tarleton put two runs on the board off a single through the right side and later one more off a CU error for the games first runs.  Cameron was silenced for three hits through six innings before Tyler Cook opened the seventh with an infield single.  After a fielder's choice, Kaden Hardzog singled in a run.  The Aggies would manage to get the tying run on third and go-ahead run at first but a ground out ended CU's chances.

Dirk Masters (2-4) started the game and went 5 1/3 innings, with two earned runs given up, and five strikeouts.  Deven Youngstedt came in out of the bullpen and recorded the final two outs.

Cameron was limited to five hits overall with Cook having two.

In the nightcap, Cameron scored in the final four innings and took advantage of five TSU errors.  The Aggies opened with the lead by getting unearned two runs in the second inning.  However, CU would cough up three in bottom frame off of wild pitches and hit by pitches, none of the runs scored came off of a TSU hit.

After a scoreless third, Cameron managed to retake the lead off a Tyler West single and a Cook sacrifice fly to give CU a 5-3 lead.   The Aggies added two more in the third with a RBI double from Justin Winters and a West fielder's choice.  In the sixth, CU added a run off a wild pitch, and in the seventh, Jonathan Reyes gave the Aggies their ninth run off a single.

Tarleton State was able to put a small rally together but could only get two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

West had a pair of hits and three RBI to lead the Aggies who had 11 hits, Jordan Dailey (1-2) came in the second inning and went 5 1/3 for the win, with only two earned runs given up.

Both teams will conclude the four game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
