Cameron shuts out ENMU for second straight game in 8-0 win

PORTALES, N.M. – In the final game of the four game series, the Aggie pitching staff combined for a four man shutout, as CU beat Eastern New Mexico 8-0 on Sunday to take the 3-1 series win. This was the Aggies second shutout win in a row and it improves their record to 12-14 overall and 6-9 in Lone Star Conference play.

The four CU pitchers combined for seven hits, three walks, five strikeouts, and most importantly, no runs in the nine inning game.  Justin Winters set the table as he started the game and went three innings, while giving up four hits and striking out one. Both Zach Cordell and Logan Fanning went two innings without giving up a hit to bridge the gap from the fourth through seventh innings. Javarias Banks pitched the eighth and ninth innings and gave up three hits in two innings of work with three punch-outs.

After a scoreless first four innings, the Aggie offense came alive in the top of the fifth, bringing across the first run of the game on a Cody Knight RBI single that scored Jonathan Reyes.

Cameron then really exploded in the top of the sixth adding four more runs, the first coming on a Tyler West RBI single. After loading the bases, Knight brought in another run by drawing a walk. ENMU recorded the second out of the innings, Justin Winters was hit and Tyler McKinzie walked to bring in two more for CU.

Cameron tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings thanks to a Tyler Cook RBI single in the seventh that scored west and a Reyes sacrifice fly in the eighth that drove in McKinzie.

The Aggies struck again in the top of the ninth, loading the bases on three straight walks to open up the inning. Kaden Hardzog then drove in Brandon Wright on a sacrifice fly for CU's eight run of the game.
Eastern New Mexico put up a fight in the bottom of the ninth inning. After back to back strikeouts to open the inning, a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with two outs, but Banks shut the scoring threat down and recorded the final out for the win.

Knight and McKinzie led the Aggies with three hits apiece, while Knight added a pair of RBI and both West and Reyes scored two runs each.

ENMU falls to 6-17 on the year with a 2-10 LSC mark. They used nine pitchers in the contest and recorded seven hits as a team.

The Aggies will return home for their next four game series, as they host West Texas A&M next weekend, Mar. 27-29.
