LAWTON –
Dirk Masters had another strong performance and helped the Aggie baseball team win a pitcher's duel 2-1 in game one, but Cameron fell in game two's slug-fest 10-5 to split their double-header with West Texas A&M on Saturday. Cameron is now 14-15 on the season with an 8-10 Lone Star Conference mark. They lead the weekend series 2-1 after winning game one 2-1 in 11 innings.
WT got on the board early in game one, putting the first run of the game on the board in the top of the first via a solo home run, and after a scoreless second inning, Cameron responded with a run of their own on an RBI double from
Jonathan Reyes that scored
Tyler Palmer.
Both teams held each other in check for the next three innings. Masters went the distance for CU and allowed just two hits, one run, and struck out six. He gave up no hits in the final three innings.
In the Aggie half of the seventh, Cameron was able to load the bases with a double by
Tyler McKinzie and a pair of walks from Palmer and
Nate Hale. After WT got the force out at home for out number one, Reyes looped a ball into short left field to drive in his second RBI of the game and the game winning run.
Reyes had three of Cameron's eight hits in game one to lead the Aggies, while
Brandon Wright added two hits and three others had one. Masters earned his fourth win of the season.
The Buffs offense exploded in the first inning of game two, putting four runs on the board with four hits, including three doubles. They added three more in the top of the second to give them a 7-0 lead.
Cameron started chipping away at the lead in the bottom of the second, as
Justin Winters singled in a run and then scored on a
Steven Swingle two out double to left center. Hale walked and
Tyler West was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Reyes unloaded them with another CU two out double that scored three more runs to cut the WT lead to 7-5 after two innings.
The Buffs added another run in the top of the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings and held the Aggies scoreless for the final five innings to get the 10-5 victory.
Swingle had two of CU's five hits in game two, while Reyes added three RBI to give him five for the day.
With the split, West Texas A&M's moves to 19-12 overall and 11-8 in LSC play.
The two teams will close out the four game series tomorrow with a single nine inning game starting at 1 p.m.
