LAWTON – Cameron used some late inning magic and rallied from two runs to beat Texas A&M-Kingsville 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies' win snapped a four game skid and a seven game streak that was in favor of the Javelinas.
CU hitting was limited to six hits but made them count with
Matt Nilmeyer and
Tyler McKinzie having a pair of hits and both helped the Ags score three of their final four runs.
Codey Upton started the game for CU with eight innings tossed and he would give up five runs and strike out four in the no-decision.Â
Deven Youngstedt (1-0) recorded the final three outs and punched out one for the win.
Texas A&M-Kingsville struck first in the opening frame with a pair of two out run scoring doubles and added a run in the second inning off a ground ball to take a 3-0 advantage. Â
Cameron cut the TAMUK lead down to one in the fourth after a fly ball error by the Javelina center fielder to score
Russ Colgan and Nilmeyer. However, the Aggies would cough up two runs in the next frame off a double and single to give Texas A&M-Kingsville a 5-2 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh,
Tyler McKinzie hit CU's second homer of the year off the left field scoreboard to bring the TAMUK lead back down to two.
In the ninth, a pair of walks to open the inning led to a single by McKinzie and an error scored
Tyler Cook in from third to get CU within one. With the runners on second and third,
Tyler Palmer walked to load the bases before
Nate Hale was hit by a pitch to tie the game at five each. After a popup, Nilmeyer hit a fly ball in the right center for the game winning run.
With the win Cameron is now 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the Lone Star Conference, Texas A&M-Kingsville will fall to 9-7 and 3-2 in league play.
Cameron will return to the diamond on Sunday for two seven inning games starting at 1 p.m.
