LAWTON – The Cameron men's tennis team worked their way to a split on Saturday falling to Ouachita Baptist 5-4 before beating CSU-Pueblo 8-1.
In the morning match, the number-19 Aggies took the early advantage over the number-28 Tigers with two doubles wins. The pairing of
Dennis Merdan and
Joao Fazendeiro edged out a 9-8(5) tiebreaker win in the top slot; while
Felipe Oyarzun and
Mateo Velasco took a 8-2 in the number-2 doubles slot.
However, in singles play the Aggies couldn't get much going in the bottom half of the lineup. Fazendeiro and
Angelo Lencioni both came up with three set victories in two and three slots; Merdan would be the third Aggie to play three sets but would fall short.
Cameron responded back for an in-region win against the Thunderwolves that started with all three doubles slots getting victories for the first time this season. In singles play, the Aggies won in all slots with the exception of the number-2 slot for the victory.
The Aggies are now 6-3 for the season and they will be off until Mar. 16 where they will visit Drury University.
