Women's tennis takes rare win at Tarleton State 6-3

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Cameron women's tennis team climbed back up to .500 in Lone Star Conference play with a road win at Tarleton State on Friday afternoon.

A win at Tarleton has been a rare occurrence for the Aggies with this being their first in at least a decade.

Cameron got off to a strong start with a pair of doubles wins to hold onto a 2-0 lead into the intermission.   Angie Torres and Eugenia Sanchez paired up for an 8-2 win in the three-slot and a tiebreaker 9-8(3) victory in the two-slot by Paula Gutierrez and Dejana Veljic guided CU.

In singles action, the Aggies kept the momentum going and took four matches for the overall victory.  Magdalena Kovinic had no problem in the four-slot with a straight set sweep, Sanchez won in the five-slot with a pair of 6-2 set wins, Gutierrez dropped three games in the first set and went 6-0 win set-two for the top-slot victory, and Torres came away with a three-set 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win in the two-slot

With win over the TexAnns, Cameron will move to 12-6 and 1-1 in LSC play, Tarleton State will go to 6-6 and 0-1 in league play.

Cameron will wrap up the LSC schedule with Midwestern State at home on April 15 at 2 p.m.
