LAWTON – The Cameron baseball team beat out the rain but they would fall to Tarleton State 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Cameron's loss is their tenth in a row in league play and will send the Aggies to 15-24 overall and 8-19 in the Lone Star Conference.
Â
Dirk Masters started the contest and went seven innings on the mound but the Aggies would be limited to four hits overall.
Â
After a scoreless first, the Texans opened the second inning with a leadoff triple, and TSU's next hitter would ground out to get runner home to give them the early one run advantage.
Â
Both starters would be locked in and it would take until the bottom of the sixth until
Jonathan Reyes opened the inning with a single. The Aggies manufactured a run with
Tyler McKinzie dropping down a bunt to move Reyes up a bag;
Brandon Wright in the next at-bat would single up the middle to tie the game.
Â
However the tie wouldn't hold for long and a leadoff double turned into a pair of go-ahead runs in the seventh to give TSU a 3-1 advantage. Â In the bottom half of the inning, CU managed to load the bases off two walks and a hit-by-pitch, but they would strand those runners with two strikeouts ending the threat.
Â
Cameron would go in order in the eighth and ninth to fall just before the rains came.
Â
Masters tossed 124 pitches and punched out eight TSU hitters, with six hits and three earned runs given up.
Â
With the win against the Aggies, Tarleton State will go to 17-17 overall and 11-13 in conference play.
Both teams will turn around and play doubleheader on Sunday to conclude the series at 1 p.m.
