LAWTON – With a strong northeastern wind on Sunday, the Aggies edged out a 2-1 win over William Jewell to sweep the four game series, and keep Cameron undefeated in their first eleven games.
The Aggies broke the pitcher's duel first after four scoreless by manufacturing a run off a one out single by Johnathan Reyes; he would swipe second and third base for
Haydon Bogard who scored the game's first run off a single to right field.
After a scoreless sixth, William Jewell singled and stole second base to open the inning, and after a strike out the Cardinals doubled to center field to tie the game at one run apiece. Cameron came back in the bottom half of the inning with a leadoff walk by
Nate Hale who would advance to scoring position on a wild pitch. After a WJC pitching change with one out, Reyes beat out a low throw to first base and Hale would come around to score the go-ahead run.
William Jewell would put the tying run on base in the final two innings but clean innings by
John Millan and
Logan Fanning out of the bullpen closed the door for the Cardinals.
Javarias Banks (2-0) tossed seven innings, with one earned run charged, and four strikeouts; Fanning earned his third save of the season.
Russ Colgan and Reyes both had two-hit afternoons for the Aggies.
Both teams were limited to six hits; William Jewell opened their season with Cameron and will start the year at 0-4.
The Aggies will be off until Mar. 4-6 where they will open Lone Star Conference play with a four game series at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
