KINGSVILLE, Texas – Cameron's perfect start came to a halt in their Lone Star Conference opener falling 9-0 on Friday evening at Nolan Ryan Field. The Aggies opened the season undefeated in their first 11 contests and surged to number-10 in the nation in the most resent NCBWA poll this last week.
Up to their contest with Texas A&M-Kingsville, Cameron was the last remaining NCAA Division II program with double-digit wins and no losses. The Aggies have lost in their last seven meetings with TAMUK and have dropped ten in a row at Nolan Ryan Field.
The Aggies were limited to five hits with
Tyler McKinzie picking up a pair.
Bryan Belote (2-1) was charged with the loss going 5 2/3 innings, with seven earned runs given up, and nine strikeouts.
After striking out three batters in the home half of the first, Belote got into a bases loaded no-out jam in the second. He worked himself out of the jam without any damage after recording his fourth strikeout and getting Texas A&M-Kingsville to ground out in to a double play. However, Belote allowed a RBI triple and a RBI double in the third to go up 2-0 on the Aggies.
The Javelinas picked up their third run in the home half of the fifth off a homer to left field. In the sixth, TAMUK would blow the game wide open with six runs off of six hits.
With the win over the Aggies, Texas A&M-Kingsville is now 8-3, and 1-0 in LSC play.
Cameron will continue their series with Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
