KINGSVILLE, Texas – Cameron's skid hit three as the No. 10 Aggies dropped a double header at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday evening. The Javelinas took game one 3-1 and followed up with a 9-6 victory. The Aggies move to 11-3 overall and 0-3 in Lone Star Conference play.
Â
Cameron led things off with a two out RBI single from
Cody Knight to tack one on the board; however, the Aggies would not cross the plate again, recording only four hits on game one.
Â
The Javelinas had at least one hit in every inning with nothing doing until the bottom of the fifth when an RBI double plated a run and an Aggie throwing error at shortstop allowed another to come in.
Â
The Javelinas had one more in store with a sixth inning leadoff homer inside the park for the 3-1 advantage. TAMUK had seven hits and four doubles on the game.
Dirk Masters (1-1) recorded the loss for the Aggies; he fanned six batters out of CU's 10 total and allowed six hits.
Â
In game two, the Aggies scored three runs on two outs following an RBI double and a pair of RBI singles to go up 3-0, but the Javelinas began a rally in the bottom to plate nine runs off five hits for the 9-3 lead.
Â
Cameron trimmed the deficit to three in the sixth inning on three runs with
Nate Hale and
Jorden Fields crossing home for a second time.
Cody Bower also scored on a sacrifice fly; he hit 3 for 3 and batted in two runs on the game.
Â
While the Javelinas were held to one hit in the bottom of the sixth, Cameron could not capitalize in the seventh with a groundout and two strikeouts for the 9-6 loss to TAMUK.
Â
Javarias Banks (2-1) picked up his first loss of the season on the mound. The Aggie pitching staff accounted for seven strikeouts, with Banks and
Blake Welch fanning three each.
Jorden Fields had a 2 for 4 day at the plate, recorded two doubles and batted in one run.
Â
The hit count was even at nine each for both teams.
Â
Cameron will wrap up the four game series with Texas A&M-Kingsville at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
