GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – For the second game in a row the Cameron received a strong effort from its pitching staff winning 2-1 over East Central on Saturday.
The game is the first of two for the Aggies with them set to play Washburn at 4 p.m.
Cameron stuck out nine Tiger batters behind a solid no-decision start from
Javarias Banks who tossed seven innings with seven punch outs, and one run given up.
Matt Glasmann (1-0) came out of the bullpen to pick up the win after recording two outs in the eighth inning.
Logan Fanning pitched the ninth and picked up his second save.
The Aggies broke the pitcher's duel first after
Russ Colgan opened the fourth with a single up the middle, he would advance to scoring position on an ECU wild pitch.
Bronson Pulgados followed up with a single to score Colgan in from second for the go-ahead run.
East Central had an opportunity to blow the game open in the sixth after hitting back-to-back singles to open the frame. A ground-rule double by the Tigers tied the game and the Aggies intentionally walked the next runner to load the bases. The strategy worked for CU and the second out would be an infield fly and ECU left the bases juiced with a fly out to right field.
Cameron snapped the tie playing small ball in the bottom of the eighth after picking up a leadoff walk and advanced the runner to second off a sac bunt. Colgan followed up with a single to right field in what would be the winning run for the Ags.
Pulgados went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, and Colgan had two hits with a RBI.
The Aggies are now 2-0 for the season and East Central will go to 0-3.
