Aggies stay perfect this season with win over Washburn

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- The Cameron baseball team is off to their best start since 2012 after beating Washburn 4-1 in their second game on Saturday afternoon; with the win CU is 3-0 to start the year.

Cameron's pitching continued to do a stellar job holding WU to only three hits while using five different players on the mound.   Through the three games this weekend, the CU pitching staff held opposing hitting to a .184 average and just over two runs per game.

Codey Upton got the start going 4 2/3 innings and didn't qualify for the win but he punch out four batters.  Jackson Tetreault (1-0) sat seven down in order out of the bullpen and picked up the win; Blake Welch and Matt Glasmann tossed a scoreless eighth inning, and John Millan struck three batters in the ninth for the save.

Bronson Pulgados had another multi-hit game for the Aggies with three hits and two RBI; for the weekend he batted .667, with eight hits, and four doubles.  Haydon Bogard also had three hits and a RBI, and Nate Hale had a RBI.

Cameron picked up two runs in the second inning off of a Pulgados double and Hale dropped down a suicide squeeze bunt to bring in the runner from third.  The rest of the scoring for CU came in the third with Pulgados hitting another double to score Russ Colgan in and Borgard followed up with an infield single to put them up 4-0.

Washburn had a shot in the ninth by opening the inning with two on and the tying run on deck with no outs.  Millian came out of the pen and struck out the next two batters swinging.   A wild pitch advanced the batters up a bag and they would score run off a CU infield error.  However, Millian locked down and ended the game with another strike out.

The loss for Washburn will drop them down to 2-1 this season; Cameron will return to the diamond on Friday and Saturday for a home-and-home four game series with Southern Nazarene.
