Cameron wins opener over Tarleton State, 4-3

LAWTON – The Aggies opened the series against Tarleton State with a win, defeating the Texans 4-3 on Saturday evening at McCord Field. Cameron is now 14-6 overall and 3-6 in the Lone Star Conference.

TSU out-hit the Aggies nine to five, but would leave nine runners on base to CU's three. Cody Knight led CU at the plate, going 2 for 4 while batting in one run and crossing home himself.

Cameron struck first in the opening inning to plate two runs as Knight hit an RBI single to left field, and Bronson Pulgados followed up with a sacrifice bunt to put the Aggies up 2-0. The Ags would up their advantage to 3-0 in the fourth inning with Knight crossing the plate on an Aggie groundout.

The Texans had five hits with nothing doing until the top of the seventh when they would tie Cameron 3-3 with three hits. An RBI double with two outs started things off for TSU, and they scored two more off a single to centerfield.

Cameron answered back in the bottom half when pinch runner Codey Upton crossed home plate on an error by the catcher for the 4-3 Aggie lead.

Tarleton State attempted a comeback in the ninth with one out and two runners on; however, Javarias Banks would get the save as he forced a fly out and struck out the last batter on a full count for the Ags' 4-3 win.

Logan Fanning (3-0) picked up the win on the mound; he allowed only one hit in 1.2 innings. CU's starter Bryan Belote pitched 6.2 innings and fanned five TSU batters.

The Aggies continue their series with Tarleton State on Sunday for a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
