LAWTON – #15 Cameron pushed their winning streak up to seven matches after beating #28 Western New Mexico 6-3 on Saturday. The win was a solid in-region pickup for the Aggies with the Mustangs sitting as the fourth best team in the ITA South Central Region; Cameron remains in second behind Midwestern State who will come to Lawton later in the regular season.Â
The match win brings Cameron to 7-0 at home and 9-2 overall, WNMU falls to 8-7.
Western New Mexico had the early lead in the match taking the top two slots; Cameron edged out an 8-6 win with
Dennis Merdan and
Joao Fazendeiro avoiding a Mustang sweep.
In singles play, CU's depth was the deciding factor with the Aggies taking all but the up slot for the match win.Â
Vinicius Santos and
Mateo Velasco both won their slots in two sets after sweeping their first set to WNMU.  Fazendeiro won a set one tiebreaker in the second slot to win 7-6, 6-2 and
Felipe Oyarzun won 6-4, 7-6 in the four slot.
Cameron will hit the road to Denver, Colo. to face Metropolitan State on Monday.
