Aggies power 18 hits in win over Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Cameron's bats lead the way as the Aggies recorded 18 hits in a 13-7 win over Angelo State on Saturday evening. The series finale victory snapped an 11 game skid to the Rams with the Aggies' last win against ASU dating back to April 5th, 2014 in San Angelo.

Of Cameron's 18 hits, the Aggies had seven doubles and two homeruns. Five Aggies had multiple hits on the game with Nate Hale leading the way, batting 4 for 6 with 2 doubles, 2 runs, and 2 RBI.

Tyler McKinzie batted in a game high three runs, and Tyler Cook and Cole Williams blasted a homerun each.

CU's pitching was split between four, and starter Blake Welch (2-0) was credited with the win. Angelo State produced ten hits, but Cameron maintained momentum through six Ram pitching changes as starter Paxton DeLaGarza (2-2) was charged with the ASU loss.

Angelo State got on the board first in their opening frame as Cameron ran into trouble early on three consecutive infield errors. A fielding error and a throwing error allowed two Rams to score and one more followed on an RBI ground out for the 3-0 ASU lead.

However, Cameron answered back, manufacturing six runs off eight hits in the top of the second to lead 6-3. The Aggies cycled through their lineup, which included a two-run homer by Tyler Cook and three doubles.

The Aggies furthered their advantage in the third inning 8-3 on an RBI single and double.

The bottom of the fourth inning was the closest the Rams would narrow the Aggies' advantage. Following a run scored in the third, ASU closed the gap to two on a two run double, 8-6.

Cameron continued to power ahead, scoring five more runs and allowed only one more ASU run in the eighth inning to take the series finale 13-7 on the road.

The Aggies (17-10, 6-10 LSC) will return to McCord Field on April 1st for a four game series with Eastern New Mexico.
