WICHITA Falls, Texas -- The No. 12 Cameron men's tennis team closed out their final regular season road match with a 6-3 loss at the hands of No.11 Midwestern State on Wednesday at the MSU Tennis Center.
The matchup pitted the South Central Region's top two programs with the Aggies sitting on top of the latest poll. Cameron entered their match in Wichita Falls riding a modest three match winning streak and Midwestern State has dropped four of their last five.
Cameron fell behind after dropping two of its three doubles slots,
Felipe Oyarzun and
Mateo Velasco evened the match at 1-1 after beating No. 19 Kyle Davidson and Ramon 8-5. The Aggies had a chance to take a one point lead into singles, but their three-doubles pairing would fall in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-3).
In singles, CU fell in the two and four spots with Midwestern needing only one game to win.
Bruno Babic gave the Aggies their second point winning 7-5, 6-2 in the six-slot. However, the Mustangs would take the top-singles spot in three sets to secure the win over the Aggies.
Joao Fazendeiro would win in the three-slot 7-6, 6-4 after MSU already clinched the overall match.
The loss sent Cameron to 15-5 overall and Midwestern will go to 14-8.
Cameron will be at home for the next three days and will host UA-Fort Smith at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
