WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Aggie baseball team split their double header at Southwestern Oklahoma State falling 18-16 in game one and winning the nightcap 9-7 on Friday.
Â
Senior
Cody Bower had a standout performance in game one, batting a perfect 6-for-6 and accounting for 7 RBI. He powered three home runs over the Bulldogs and had two triples in the opener. He added two more hits in the second game, one of which was a double.
Â
Fellow senior
Cody Knight highlighted the Aggies in game two going 3-for-4 at the plate and batting in four runs, two of which were scored off a two run blast over the left field wall.
Â
Between both games, junior
Victor DeJesus hit 5-for-8 with two doubles and two runs batted in.
Â
In game one, Cameron held a 15-7 advantage by the seventh inning after big rallies of six runs in the second inning and five runs in the sixth.
Â
However, the seventh and eighth innings belonged to the Bulldogs as they overcame the eight run deficit off just five hits and taking advantage of three Cameron errors. SWOSU took their first lead of the game since a one run edge in the first inning to lead the Aggies 18-15.
Â
Bower would attempt to keep the Aggies in contention in the final frame, blasting his third homer of the game from the leadoff spot to put CU within two. However, SWOSU retired the next three Aggies in order for the 18-16 win, delivering Cameron their first loss of the season.
Â
Reid Garrett (0-1) was charged with the loss after facing three batters in the eighth inning. Starter Oswald Godina pitched four innings,
Javarias Banks three and
Tyler Abrego closed out the final inning.
Â
Cameron kept offensive momentum into the second game taking a 9-1 lead in the fifth inning, which featured back-to-back homers by Knight and Cole Willams.
Â
SWOSU responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame and threatened the Aggies' lead with two more in the sixth inning, but Pierce Edward would close out the final frame with the save for winning pitcher
Tyler Abrego (2-0).
Cameron is now 5-1 overall and SWOSU is 4-1. The teams will continue their home-and-home series at McCord Field on Saturday with a noon double header start.
