Cameron splits first LSC doubleheader against Texas Woman's

DENTON, Okla. – The Aggie softball team split their first Lone Star Conference doubleheader on Friday against Texas Woman's, winning game one 7-6, and then falling in game two 2-1. Cameron is now 11-4 and 1-1, while TWU moved to 9-6 and 1-1 with the split.

In game one, both teams went scoreless through the first three innings. Cameron got on the board first scoring two in the top of the fourth inning. Bethany Hines led off the inning with a double, and then advanced to third in the next at bat. Hines then scored on a RBI double from Paige Daino for CU's first run. Daino then scored, while Breezy McComas got caught trying to steal second. Thankfully for the Black and Gold, Daino scored before McComas was tagged out and they took a 2-0 lead.

The Aggies added another run in the fifth, via a Kaylyn Smith sacrifice fly that scored Abbey Warren, making it 3-0. However, TWU struck for five runs in the bottom of the inning, four of which came on a pair of two RBI doubles, putting the Pioneers up 5-3.

After a scoreless sixth, Cameron came up in the top of the seventh with their last chance to get back in the ballgame. Sydnee Stolz helped the Aggie cause by hitting her first career homer to cut the TWU lead to just one run. CU then got two runners on in the next two at bats, but quickly recorded their first two outs in the next two at bats. With just one out left, McComas walked to load the bases for Brenna Busby. Busby then ripped a double to left center to clear the bases and put Cameron back up on top by two runs. Texas Woman's threatened in the top of the seventh, getting a two out RBI base hit of their own, but the next batter grounded out to end the game, with CU on top 7-6.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the two teams got caught in a pitcher's duel, with each team going scoreless through the first five and a half innings.  TWU got on the board first in the top of the fifth via an RBI single and a run scoring on an error, giving them a 2-0 lead.

The Aggies tried to make another seventh inning comeback in game two, as Daino lead off the inning with a solo homer, her fifth of the season. However that was all the runs CU would get as the Pioneers won game two 2-1.

Hines moved to 7-2 on the season with her win in game one, striking out six during the seven inning outing. Alyssa Osterdock was credited with her second loss of the season, but did not get credit with an earned run as both runs in game two were results of CU errors.

Warren led CU with three hits on the day, while B. Busby had three RBI, and Daino had two.

The two teams will finish out the three game series with a single game on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for noon in Denton, Texas.
