DENTON, Texas – The Aggie softball team closed out their first Lone Star Conference series with a 6-4 win over Texas Woman's on Saturday. CU won the series 2-1 and is now 12-4 on the season and 2-1 in LSC play.
The Aggies put the first runs of the game on the board in the top of the second.
Brenna Busby hit her fourth homer of the season that plated two to give CU the early lead. TWU used an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to cut the CU lead in half.
CU added another run in the top of the third on a double-steal attempt that scored
Kaylyn Smith, and then two more in the fourth.
Breezy McComas homered to lead off the inning, giving CU the 4-1, and three batters later K. Smith drove in
Annie Combs to put CU up by four. The Pioneers added a run to their line in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run on an RBI single of their own.
Texas Woman's added two more in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles, cutting the Aggie lead to just one at 5-4. CU came up in the top of the seventh and added a cushion to their leads on an
Abbey Warren single, giving them a two run advantage. The Pioneers were able to load the bases with two outs in their half of the seventh, but
Alyssa Osterdock closed the door for CU, as they took the game 6-4 and the series two games to one.
McComas led CU with three hits on the day, while K. Smith and B. Busby each had two. B. Busby also had two RBI.
Bethany Hines got her eighth win of the season, going 4.2 innings, giving up four earned runs on eight hits, and striking out five. Osterdock pitched the final 2.1 and gave up no earned runs.
Cameron will be back at home next, as they host UT Permian Basin four a three game series, Feb. 24-25.
