LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie softball team swept their doubleheader with UT Permian Basin on Saturday, making it a 3-0 sweep for the weekend series. CU won 12-3 in the first game and then took game two 5-0 to move to 15-4 overall and 5-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
In game one, the Falcons scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Cameron answered with two of their own in the bottom of the second, via a two out RBI double from
Tori Smith to tie the game.
UTPB scored their third and final run of the game on a wild pitch in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning
Breezy McComas gave the Ags the lead with a two run homer to that clanged off the right field scoreboard.
In their half of the fifth, CU added four runs to their lead, going up 8-3. McComas kicked it off with an RBI single, and a batter later,
Brenna Busby drove in two runs on a single to left center. B. Busby stole both second and third and then scored on an RBI single from Abby Warren to give CU their fourth run.
An Inning later, Cameron ended the game an inning early with four runs, giving them the 12-3 run-rule victory.
Paige Daino drove in
Annie Combs on a two out single to left, and then
Callie Busby capped it off with a three run homer to end the game.
Alyssa Osterdock got her fifth win of the season, going six innings while giving up two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
The second game was all Aggies, as they scored four runs in the second inning and one in the fifth, winning 5-0. B. Busby opened up the scoring in the second with her fifth homer of the season, which was followed by a bases loaded walk to from
Bethany Hines that scored T. Smith. McComas added to her RBI total for the day with a two RBI double that put CU up 4-0.
McComas then made her pitching debut for the black and gold, coming into the fifth inning with two outs and getting a strikeout to end the inning. She then led off their half of the fifth with a solo homer to move her to within three long balls of the program career record of 43, which is held by Leslie Martini and
Sonora Zukerman.
Hines is now 10-2 on the season, going the first 4.2 innings, while giving up just two hits and striking out eight. She gave way to McComas who pitched the final 2.1 innings, giving up two hits and striking out one batter.
McComas had herself a day at the plate, going 6-8 with six RBI and four runs scored. She and B. Busby are now tied with Daino for the team lead in homers with five apiece.
UT Permian Basin is now 3-15 and 1-5 in in conference play.
The Aggies will be back on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 28, as they visit Oklahoma Christian for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
