Game Recap: Softball |

Cameron takes down St. Edward's; falls in nightcap to Texas A&M-International

DURANT, Okla. – Just a day after splitting their games on opening day, the Aggie softball team had another split in day two of the Southwestern Regional Invitational, beating St. Edward's 4-3 in their first game and then falling 6-4 in game two against Texas A&M-International. The Aggies are now 2-2 on the young season.

In game one, St. Edward's struck first and the score was 1-0 until the fourth inning, when STEU put two more runs on the board, one coming from a solo home run. The Aggies responded with two runs of their own in the next half inning, as Nikki Horton scored on a throwing error after she reached on a double and stole third. Paige Daino followed that up with a solo home run left to make it 3-2.

Cameron scored two more runs in the fifth as another throwing error led to a CU run. Daino, who walked earlier in the inning scored a batter later.

Bethany Hines came in to pitch with one out in the sixth and got the save, striking out three in the final 1.2 innings to secure CU's 4-3 win.

Game two started with the Dustdevils scoring four runs on five straight hits right off the back in the first inning. Breezy McComas got one run back in the next half inning, leading off with a triple and then scoring later on in the inning.

The Aggies got another run back in the third inning, as Hines tried to help out her cause with a leadoff triple of her own and scored later in the inning, making it 4-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, CU got back-to-back hits to start the inning, and two batters late Callie Busby came up and drove in both Hines and Kaylyn Smith to tie the game up at four runs apiece.

The Dustdevils responded quickly though, scoring one run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI triple, and then getting another run in the seventh, making it 6-4.

Cameron had a chance to make it interesting in the final half inning, loading the bases for Brenna Busby, but unfortunately the TAMI pitcher was able to get Busby out and end the game.

The Aggies will conclude the invitational on Sunday as they play Emporia State at 9:30 and then St. Mary's at noon.
