LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie softball team fell in the third game of their series with Tarleton State on Saturday, falling 4-2, but still winning the series 2-1, after sweeping a doubleheader on Friday.
Cameron is now 21-6 on the season with a 10-2 Lone Star Conference mark, while the TexAnns are now 17-12 with a 6-6 league record.
The game was a pitcher's duel through the first six innings, with
Bethany Hines giving up just one run in the top of the fourth on a TSU homer until the seventh.
Both offenses struck for runs in the seventh inning, with the TexAnns getting a run on a double with two outs and then two more crossed the plate on a dropped fly ball, giving them a 4-0 lead heading into the final half inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Aggies were able to load the bases on a pair of leadoff walks and an infield single by
Kaylyn Smith.
Brenna Busby then drove them in on a hot grounder that ricochet off the shortstops glove, cutting the TSU lead in half. Â
Paige Daino then walked to reload the bases with still no outs.
Breezy McComas then flew out on a 3-2 count, and then
Callie Busby grounded into a double play for the second and third outs, ending the game 4-2 in favor of Tarleton State.
Hines received her first loss since February 4, going all seven innings, while giving up two earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. She is now 15-3 on the season.
CU's offense managed just five hits with K. Smith, B. Busby, C. Busby, Hines, and
