SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Cameron baseball team faced off against No. 6 Angelo State on Friday night and was held to just one run, as CU fell 10-1 in game one of a four game Lone Star Conference series.
The game was the first conference game of the season for each team as the Aggies are now 18-8 overall and ASU is now 19-4.
The Black and Gold's lone run came in the top of the first inning, as
Cody Knight drove in
Micah Kaaukai on a RBI single. From there it was all Rams, as the home team scored one run in both the first and second innings, four in the fifth, and two more in the eighth.
LSC Preseason pitcher of the year, Matt Shannon gave up just four hits in eight innings of work, while striking out six Aggie batters. He is now a perfect 4-0 on the season.
Six different CU hitters recorded a hit, all of which were singles.
Luke Hughes and
Erik Lozano each had pinch hit singles, while Knight,
Haydon Bogard,
Jorden Fields, and
Adrian Rodriguez supplied the other four hits.
Andrew Garza received his first loss of the season, giving up four runs in 3.1 innings, while also striking out four.
Angelo State was led at the plate by Mitch Henshaw, who had four hits and three runs scored, while Matt Waller and Jacob Boston each collected three hits and two runs scored with Waller recording three RBI. Â
The two teams will be back on the diamond on Saturday, March 25 as they play a doubleheader with game one scheduled to start at 4 p.m.Â
