ODESSA, Texas -- The Cameron baseball team split their doubleheader with UT Permian Basin on Saturday, taking game one 7-4 but fell 5-4 in the nightcap.
The Aggies are now 22-14 overall and 3-6 in the Lone Star Conference while UTPB is 8-23 overall with a 1-6 league mark.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Falcons jumped to a 3-0 lead on two doubles in the first inning. In the fifth inning,
Cole Williams doubled home a run himself to put the Aggies within two runs, 3-1.
However, UTPB took their three run advantage back in the fifth inning on a bases loaded walk. Their edge did not last long as in the sixth inning
Bronson Pulgados powered a three run double to tie the game at four runs each.
Then another Aggie double and single made it a 6-4 CU lead. In the seventh inning, Cameron tacked on a final insurance run on a
Oswaldo Godina double and closed out with the 7-4 victory.
John Millan (3-0) got the win on the mound in 0.2 innings facing four batters, and
Tyler Abrego got his second save of the season, allowing just one hit in the final two innings.
For the third game of the series and doubleheader nightcap, CU fell behind 4-0 as UTPB scored two runs by way of singles, one run on a sacrifice fly and one run during a throwing error from first base.
Just as in the first game of the day, the Aggies worked to tie it up at 4-4 through the second and fourth innings. During the second, Pulgados singled home a run, and in the fourth inning,
Jorden Fields and
Micah Kaaukai singled home one and two runs, respectively.
But in the sixth inning, the Falcons would single to center field and plate home the final run of the game to win 5-4. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
