WICHITA, Kan. – The Cameron women's basketball team struggled shooting from the field on Saturday afternoon, falling to Oklahoma Christian 86-75.
The Aggies shot just 34.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the three-point line in the loss. They also lost the turnover margin, giving up the ball 16 times compared to OC's eight.
Freshman
Maighan Hedge followed up her 27-point debut on Friday night with 19 to lead CU on Saturday, going 7-15 from the field and 4-8 from three.
Ava Battese also drained four threes, giving her 16 points for the contest, while
Natalie Halbleib had 11 points and
Parfitt McNair and
Lejha Smith each had 10.
Cameron hung tough with the hot shooting Eagles throughout the first half, as the trailed by just two 38-36. However, a strong third quarter from Oklahoma Christian where they outscored the opposition 23-12 would give them a strong lead heading into the fourth. CU had their best quarter in the fourth, outscoring OC 27-25, but the Eagles went 10-11 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to close out the game.
Addy Clift led OC with 22 points, while Maddison Collyer scored 21 and Katie Mayo had 17. As a team, they shot 51.6 percent from the floor and went 15-20 from the charity stripe.
Cameron finishes the Heartland/Lone Star Conference Challenge with a 1-1 record, and OC moves to 2-0 with the win.
The Aggies will take on Central Oklahoma for their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 13 starting at 5:30 p.m.
