LAREDO, Texas – The Aggie baseball team came away with a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M-International on Friday as they took game one 3-1 in eight innings and then won 5-4 in the second game.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Aggies struck earlier as
Mitch Sloan came in to score on a passed ball in the top of the first.
Andrew Garza held International at bay until the sixth inning, when the Dustdevils tied the game at one run a piece.
Skyler Henderson then came in and shut the door with four strikeouts in 2.1 perfect innings. Cameron took advantage of Henderson's dominant relief appearance and scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to go up 3-1.
Trey Bigford drove in Sloan on a double to left field for the first run of the inning and then after moving to third on a bunt hit by
Kameron Good, Bigford scored on an error by the TAMUI first baseman. Henderson then took over from three and closed out the game with a strikeout.
Micah Kaaukai started off the scoring for the Black and Gold in the second game as he hit a solo homer to left in the third inning, but TAMUI erased that lead with a two run single in the fourth.
Cameron bounced back with four runs in the fifth inning to go up 5-2.
Luke Hughes tripled and then scored on an error for on old fashioned little league homerun and then Good singled to center to score Sloan.
Colton Adams capped off the inning with a two RBI single to center to give the Ags their fourth and fifth runs.
The Dustdevils made it interesting by answering with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but
Sean Maher came in to pitch in relief and went a scoreless 2.1 innings with three strikeouts to hold on to CU's lead.
Good had a big 5-6 day at the plate, while Sloan had three hits and Adams led CU with 2 RBI; Sloan, Kaaukai, and Bigford each had two runs scored in the doubleheader.
Cameron and International will conclude the three game series on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a single nine inning game.
