Home opener Friday for CU tennis teams

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University tennis programs open up home action with a trio of matches this weekend, March 2-4.

The two Aggie tennis programs will begin the weekend by hosting Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday, March 2, beginning at 9 a.m. They will then host Southwest Baptist for a pair of matches on Saturday, March 2, at 10 a.m. and then Metro State on Sunday, March 3, also at 10 a.m. This will be the first chance for Aggie fans to see the two teams in action at home this spring.

Cameron's women's tennis team is 1-1 on the season and coming off of an 8-1 loss to No. 17 Central Oklahoma on Wednesday. Zhenia Shviadok is currently ranked as the 34th best singles player in Division II. Of their opponents this weekend, Southwest Baptist is the only one that is ranked as they enter the weekend ranked No. 18 by the ITA with a 1-0 start this spring. However, Metro State's Tabitha Porter is currently the sixth best singles player in DII according to the ITA.

On the men's side, Cameron has started out the spring with a 2-2 record, with wins against both Cowley and Collin College. CU has two players ranked in the top-50 in singles: Vinicius Santos (37) and Przemyslaw Zielinski (41). Southwest Baptist is ranked 13th by the ITA, while their top player, Sherif Abohabaga, is ranked sixth in singles. CSU-Pueblo's Thomas Pudney is ranked 35th.

Following this three match home stretch, the Aggies will be back on the road as they both head to St. Mary's to take on the Rattlers on March 9 beginning at 10 a.m.
