EDMOND, Okla. –The Cameron women's tennis team fell to No. 17 Central Oklahoma 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.Â
The now 1-1 Aggies started off slow, falling in all three doubles matches to begin the afternoon down 3-0. The closest a pairing got to a win was in the No. 2 spot where
Sarah Frendo and
Sara Petric battled with their UCO counterpart, eventually falling 8-6.
In singles, Cameron tried to make a comeback with some strong play in five of the six matches. In the one spot, the 34th ranked
Zhenia Shviadok toon on the 29th ranked Alli Hodges. Hodges took the first set with a 7-6 win, but Shviadok responded with a 7-5 win in the second. In the third, Hodges took back the momentum and won 6-4. Frendo,
Mathilde Thibaudat, and
Melany Opolz all had three set loses, while
Rebeka Velasova recorded CU's lone point with a three set win in the No. 6 singles match.
Cameron will host a trio of teams this upcoming weekend. On Friday, March 2, both Aggie tennis teams will host Colorado State-Pueblo beginning at 9 a.m. for the home opener. They will then welcome in Southwest Baptist on Saturday, March 3 beginning at 10 a.m. and conclude the weekend on Sunday, March 4, as they host Metro State for a match also beginning at 10 a.m.
