CU falls in series finale to No. 24 ASU

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggie baseball team fell to No. 24 Angelo State 8-1 on Sunday in the season finale of CU's Lone Star Conference opening series; ASU won the series three games to one.

The Aggie offense never really got going, recording just five hits in the nine inning contest, while striking out a total of 14 times. CU's one run came in the first inning, as Briton Schiewe drove in Luke Hughes, who walked to lead off the inning, on a sacrifice fly.

Hughes reached base three out of the four times he came to the plate, recording one hit and two walks, while Trey Bigford, Cole Williams, Micah Kaaukai, and Kameron Good had CU's other four hits.

Angelo State scored three runs in the first, one in the second, three in the fifth and one in the seventh while collecting 11 hits in the win.  Andrew Morales led ASU with three hits and three runs scored, while Nick Novak had three of the team's eight RBI.

Sean Maher left the game in the first inning after being hit by a line drive. He gave up three runs on three hits while recording just one out. Andrew Garza pitched the next 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits with five Ks, while Skyler Henderson went the final four, striking out two batters while giving up just one run on two hits.

Four Rams pitched in the series finale, with Brandon Cole earning the win after he pitched 4.2 two hit innings with seven strikeouts.

Cameron is now 11-16 overall and 1-3 in LSC play, while No. 24 ASU is now 22-8 on the season with a3-1 league mark.

The Aggies will visit Eastern New Mexico for their next conference series, playing a four game stretch, March 29-31 in Portales, N.M.
