LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University women's tennis team kicks off Lone Star Conference play this week by hosting Tarleton State on Tuesday, March 27, and then visiting Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville March 29-30.
The No. 25 Aggies are 9-4 on the season and have won six straight matches dating back to March 12. Most recently, they defeated No. 12 Drury 7-2.
Rebeka Velasova owns a 10-1 singles record, going 8-0 at No. 6, while
Mathilde Thibaudat is 9-4 in singles, playing most of her matches at No. 2. In doubles, Thibaudat and
Zhenia Shviadok are 8-5 at No. 1, as Velasova and
Melany Opolz are 6-3 playing at No. 3.
Tarleton State enters the contest with Cameron with a 6-5 record and a 1-0 conference mark after taking down Texas A&M-Kingsville in their LSC opener. Alicia Barbaroux is 8-2 playing at No. 1 singles, while Neetika Sud is 8-3 at No. 2. Barbaroux and Sherine Salen are 9-2 in doubles, playing at No. 1, as Stud and Shelby Fillingame are 8-3 at No. 2.
Angelo State is 8-5 this year with a 0-1 league mark, after falling to Midwestern State earlier this year. Maria Delgado owns an 8-3 mark at No. 2 singles, while she and Ena Ovicina are 7-5 playing at No. 1 doubles; Ovicina is 7-5 at No. 1 singles.
The Javelinas are 8-9 overall this season, while going 1-1 in their first two LSC matches.
Cameron kicks off the week with the Texans visiting the Streich-Henry Family Tennis Complex for a match beginning at 3 p.m. They will then face the Rambelles on Thursday at 1 p.m. and then TAMUK on Friday at noon.
