PORTALES, N.M. – The Cameron University baseball team lost the series finale of a four game set at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, falling 12-5 to the Greyhounds.
ENMU's offense was up and running from the start of the game, scoring three runs in the first inning, two on a homer to left field.
Cameron answered with a pair of runs in the next half inning, as
Alberto Moralobo drove in
Kameron Good on a single and the
Colton Adams scored on a passed ball.
After the Greyhounds extended their lead to three with a run in both the second and third innings, the Aggies responded with runs of their own in the fourth and fifth. Moralobo drove in another run on a groundout in the fourth, and in the fifth, Good singles through the right side to score
Cole Williams and cut the score to 5-4.
In the sixth inning, the Greyhounds put another three spot on the scoreboard to extend their lead out to four. Williams then came up in the seventh and homered for the fourth time this season. However, Alex DeLaCruz tripled in a run to begin a four run eighth inning, while Eurick Perez sealed the deal with a three run blast to right field to give ENMU the seven run cushion.
Tyler Garcia got the start, but only went one third of an inning, giving up three runs on two hits.
Abraham Renteria and
Skyler Henderson combined for nine strikeouts in the final 8.2 innings of work. Williams led CU at the plate with two hits and two runs scored, while Moralobo had two RBI.
Cameron now sits at 13-18 overall in 2018 and 3-5 in Lone Star Conference play, while Eastern New Mexico moves to 16-12 on the season and 2-6 in conference games.
The Aggies will return home for their next LSC series, hosting UT Permian Basin for a four game set, April 6-8.
