LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University women's tennis team split a pair of home matches on Saturday as they lost to No. 18 Southwest Baptist, 5-4, and beat Metro State 5-2 in the nightcap.

The Black and Gold began the day hosting SBU at noon, and then due to forecasted rain, they rescheduled the match against Metro State, which was supposed to take place Sunday at noon, to begin at 8 p.m. Saturday night.

Cameron opened Saturday with a 5-4 loss to No. 18 Southwest Baptist.  The Aggies started the match down 2-1 after falling in the one and two doubles matches. Melany Opolz and Rebeka Velasova won 8-5 in the three spot for CU's only doubles win.

In singles against the Bearcats, the Aggies got two set wins from Zhenia Shviadok in the No. 1 singles match, Mathilde Thibaudat in the two spot, and Velasova in the No. 6 battle. Unfortunately, that would not be enough as SBU secured the other three matches to win.

Against the Roadrunners, Cameron got a win in the No. 1 doubles match as Shviadok and Thibaudat beat their opponents 8-6, but Metro State secured the other two doubles matches to go up 2-1.

The Aggies secured the 5-2 win by winning the first four singles matches as Shviadok, Thibaudat, Sara Petric, and Velasova each won in two sets, ending the match 5-2.

Cameron will next compete on Tuesday, March 6, as they face against Northeastern Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla. for a neutral site contest.
