Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball falls in series opener at TSU

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Cameron University baseball team lost in the first game of a four game span at Tarleton State as the Texans hit seven homeruns on the way to a 27-7 win.

Cameron started the game strong at the plate, as Luke Hughes led off the game on a single to right and then scored in the next at bat on a double from Trey Bigford. Two batters later Briton Shciewe drove in Bigford. Kameron Good singled in the next at bat to put two runners on, but the next two batters could not bring anymore in.

The bottom of the first was when the game got out of hand. Tarleton State scored 10 runs on eight hits, four of which were homers. They followed that up with nine runs in the second, with five of those coming on a pair of long balls, to go up 19-2.

The Aggies chipped away at the lead in the third as Colton Adams drove in Bigford and Schiewe on single to center field and then scored an error by the Texan second baseman. However, TSU answered with another run in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth to take a 22-5 lead.

Michael Flohr got one run back for the Black and Gold in the fifth when he drove in Adams on a RBI single, but Tarleton State's offense kept firing on all cylinders, striking for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 27-6.

Cameron was able to add another run to the board in the sixth on a Mitch Sloan single, but the damage had already been done as the Texans closed out the run-rule win in the top of the seventh.

The Aggies had 12 hits in the game, with Adams leading the way with three and Hughes, Schiewe, and Sloan each had two; Adams had two RBI as well.

Francisco Rodriguez and Blake Adams both had monster games for TSU as they combined to go 10-10 and nine runs scored. Rodriguez drove in nine runs on three homers, while Adams drove in six with one long ball.

Cameron fell below .500 with the loss, sitting at 7-8 on the season, while Tarleton State moves to 10-8 this year. The two teams will continue the series on Saturday as they play a pair of seven inning games beginning at 1 p.m.
