Aggies gear up for home battles against TSU and ASU


LAWTON, Okla. -- The Cameron University volleyball team returns home to face No. 19 Tarleton State and Angelo State after being on a four match road stretch the past two weeks.

Cameron SAAC:
- Cameron's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) encourages Aggie fans to participate in the match themes for Friday and Saturday's matches. On Friday, CU will host "Hawaii Night" and then on Saturday, they will "Black out the Belles".
- The SAAC group will also be holding a raffle during the two matches to win a CU goodie basket with items from all over the department included in the prize.

First Serve:
- Cameron is on a seven match losing streak and has lost the last seven sets dating back to Sep. 15.
- Tarleton State and Angelo State are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the Lone Star Conference standings, with TSU winning their last 10 matches and ASU winning the last three.
- CU's Brandy Carr is ranked 10th in Division II with 72 total blocks; she is second in the LSC behind TSU's Hannah McManus.
- McManus leads a TexAnn team that is first in the nation with 168 total blocks and third with 2.95 blocks per set.
- Tarleton setter Blanca Izquierdo was named the conference's Setter of the Week after her 5.83 assist per set performance against Texas A&M-Kingsville and St. Mary's
- The Rambelles are tops in the Lone Star in aces and opponent's hitting percentage, with Meghan Parker leading the team with a league best 26 total service aces.  

About the Aggies:
- Cameron is now 2-14 overall and 0-6 in LSC play after losing their sixth and seventh straight matches against Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's last weekend.  
- As a team, CU is averaging 10.7 kills and 9.9 assists per set while hitting at a .165 percent clip.
- Defensively, the Aggies top-5 in the LSC in total digs (1043) and total blocks (132).
- Paige Dixon leads the Black and Gold with 155 kills at a 2.76 per set average, while Carr has 115 on the season and Ashleigh McFatridge has 98.
- Carr, McFatridge, and Dixon lead CU on the blocks as well, with Carr ranking second in the conference with 72 total blocks, McFatridge adding 46, and Dixon chipping in 36.
- Brittnee Altic averages almost 4.95 digs per set, which has her ranked third in the league with 322 total, while also ranking first with her 26 service aces.
- Katherine Manning is CU's leading setter at 5.26 helpers per set, while freshmen Kirsten Evans and Bailee Smith have combined for 233 assists in 2018.

Scouting the TexAnns:
- Tarleton State is on a 10 match win streak, which has their record at 14-2 overall and 6-0 in conference matches; they have not lost a set since Sep. 14.
- TSU averages 13.3 kills and 12.1 assists per set, while leading the LSC in hitting percentage with a .250 attacking clip.
- In addition to being one of the top blocking teams in Division II, the TexAnns also average almost 1.50 service aces per set, second in the LSC to Angelo State.
- Four TSU players have totaled over 100 kills so far this season, with Adriana Darthuy leading the squad with 3.09 per set and Lauren Kersey, McManus, and Amber Strange chipping in about 2.00 kills per set.
- Izquierdo and Kayla Brannon have combined for 585 assists at the setter position, while also adding 19 and 18 service aces respectively; McManus leads the team with 22 aces.
- McManus if first in the LSC and fifth nationally with 79 blocks, while averaging 1.39 per set, and teammate Sofia Tonga is third in the league with 68 total blocks.

Scouting the Rambelles:
- Angelo State enters the weekend at 12-4 overall and 5-1 in Lone Star Conference play, with their only loss in their last six matches coming to Tarleton State.
- The Rambelles average 12.4 kills and hit at a .209 clip on the offensive side of the net, but in terms of defense, they are first in the conference with opponents hitting just .124 on the attack against them.
- ASU limits their opponents by averaging 2.1 blocks, 15.5 digs, and 1.8 aces per set, which is first in the Lone Star Conference.
- Meghan Parker, who has been one of the top setters and players in the nation since she stepped onto the campus of Angelo State, is second in the conference with 572 assists at a 9.69 average.
- The Rambelles have a quartet of hitters that average over two kills per set with Audrey Fragniere leading the way with 164 total kills.
- Sundara Chinn is second on the team with 136 kills, while also leading her squad with 2.96 digs per set; MaKenna Hanssen is second with 2.73 per set.

Up Next:
- Cameron visits their Red River rival Midwestern State on Tuesday, Oct. 2, before returning home to face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday, Oct. 5 to close out their first half of the conference season.
