LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie women's basketball team used a second half comeback to take down UT Permian Basin 77-67 in overtime to secure their second Lone Star Conference win of the season.
Both teams struggled to get anything going offensively to start the game. After seven minutes of play, the two teams could only muster five points apiece. From there on, UT Permian Basin finished the frame on an 11-2 scoring run, while the Aggies went 1-for-5 from the floor with a turnover during that stretch.
The second quarter, Cameron was able to pull within one by shooting 57 percent from the floor.
Natalie Halbleib led the CU in scoring in the first half as she posted eight points on 42 percent shooting, while also tallying a rebound and assist; UT Permian Basin was led by Sarah Bersang, who totaled six points in the first half. The two teams combined for five blocks (three by the Falcons, two for the Aggies).
The Falcons started the second half hot, quickly going up by 10 in the third quarter. Down by 10, senior
Parfitt McNair gave CU the spark they needed as the Manhattan, KS native posted nine points during the third quarter and finished the game with 17 points made an impact on the glass hauling in eight rebounds. McNair's effort pulled CU to within four at the end of three.
With 8:20 left, the Black and Gold was down by a pair,
Ava Battese drilled her second three-pointer of the game, not only giving CU the lead in this contest, but putting her name in the Cameron record books as the all-time leader in three-point field goals made in the history of the program.
Cameron rallied back and the game was tied with two seconds left, the Aggies got the ball with a side out to try and snap their two game losing streak. After the ball rolled out of the cylinder it was time for free basketball.
In overtime, CU was once again led by Halbleib who scored nine points in the five minute frame on her way to posting a team high 23 points, leading the team in scoring and posting a double-double for the second consecutive game.
The Aggies are no 5-9 on the season and 2-4 in league play. They wrap up their five game homestand by welcoming in Midwestern State on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 5:30 pm.
