Aggies nail 15 threes in 91-80 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron women's basketball team set two new season high watermarks as they made 15 three pointers in a 91-80 win over Texas A&M Kingsville.
           
At the end of the first quarter, the Aggies found themselves down 28-19. Cameron shot 46 percent from the floor and 60 percent from deep in the first ten minutes.
           
Maighan Hedge led the way with nine points for the black and gold blitzing in a trio of threes. Hedge finished with a team high 21 to go with her five made threes on six attempts. She also collected four rebounds and dished out three assists.
           
In the second quarter, the Aggies came alive for a 10-0 run in the first three minutes and gained a one point advantage. Sophomore forward Jazmin Luster provided a spark getting her fifth start of the year and nailed three huge free throws including an electric and-one bucket as a catalyst for the Black and Gold run. Luster finished the game with seven points, four rebounds, and two assists.
 
At the media timeout in the second frame, the CU run had swelled to 19-9, seeing the Aggies hold a one point lead again.
 
The two teams would battle back and forth for the rest of the half, finishing with a score of 44-40 at the break, in favor of the Aggies.
           
Lejha Smith really came on down the stretch of the first half, finishing with eight points before the break, while collecting three rebounds. The senior from Fort Lauderdale finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
           
The Aggies ended the third frame down a pair of points despite their 11 team threes to that point. In the fourth and final quarter, the Aggies played their best quarter of basketball outscoring the Javelinas 33-10 in the frame. Cameron ended the fourth on a 23-7 run.
 
CU set a new season high in three pointers made with 15, and points scored with 91. The win improves their record to 8-19 overall and 5-14 against LSC foes.
           
Up Next for the Aggies, they wrap up the season with Homecoming and Senior Night on Saturday against Angelo State with tip off slated for 2 p.m. at the Aggie Gym.
