ODESSA, Texas – Both the Cameron tennis teams began Lone Star Conference play with wins against UT Permian Basin on Monday, with the No. 24 ranked CU men winning 7-0 and the women beating the Falcons 6-1.

On the men's side, the Aggies won both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead over UTPB. The No. 13 ranked pairing of Julen Gutierrez and Vinicius Santos won 6-1 at No. 1 and Oscar del Granado and Pierre Marion won 6-3 at No. 2.

Cameron then came away with a clean sweep of all six singles matches. Santos took down the reigning LSC Player of the Year Raul Stevens with a 7-6, 5-7, 10-6 win at No. 1, while all five of the other Aggies won in two sets to secure the 7-0 victory and extend the CU men's win streak to eight.

The Aggie women started their match with wins at all three doubles slots to take a 1-0 lead. Sarah Frendo and Sara Petric at No. 1 and Rebeka Velasova and Alisa Savina at No. 2 both won their matches 6-2, while Melany Opolz and Pilar Jaurena took down their opponents 6-1 at No. 3.

Frendo had an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1, while Savina and Jaurena both won their matches at the four and six singles spots in three sets. The lone UTPB point came at No. 3, where Petric lost to her opponent 6-0, 7-5.

The CU men are now 11-3 on the season, while the women move to 4-8 overall. Both teams will visit Western New Mexico for their next match on Wednesday, March 20 at 11 a.m. (CT).
