CU tennis split matches against Northwest Missouri

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University tennis teams split a pair of matches against Northwest Missouri State on Saturday, with the No. 10 ranked CU men winning 6-1 and the Aggie women falling 4-3.

The Aggie men did not have much of a problem stretching out their win streak to 10 matches on Saturday. They opened things up with wins at all three doubles spots, securing the 1-0 lead. The No. 11 ranked duo of Vinicius Santos and Julen Gutierrez at No. 1 and Mritunjay Badola and Przemyslaw Zielinski at No. 2 both won their matches 7-6, while Oscar del Granado and Pierre Marion earned a 6-4 win at No. 3.

Santos, who is ranked No. 20 in singles play, secured a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 13 Franco Oliva at the one spot, while Zielinski, del Granado, Gutierrez, and Marion all won their matches in two sets as well. CU's one loss came at No. 2, where Badola fell 6-3, 6-4 to Fabien Calloud.

In the women's match, Cameron took an early 1-0 lead with a pair of wins in doubles. Alisa Savina and Rebeka Velasova won 6-2 at the one spot, and Sarah Frendo and Sara Petric defeated their opponent at No. 2, 6-3.

Singles play went the way of the No. 32 ranked Bearcats. No. 18 ranked Frendo beat her opponent at No. 1 6-3, 6-1, and Pilar Jaurena won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6. The other four matches went to NWMSU in two sets to help them secure the 4-3 win.

Cameron's men are now 13-3 on the season, while the women fall to 5-9 this spring.

On Tuesday, March 26, the Aggie women will visit Tarleton State for a match at 2 p.m. and then will host Angelo State on Friday, March 29, at 1 p.m. Both teams will then welcome in St. Edward's on Saturday, March 30, for a pair of matches set to begin at 11 a.m.
