Aggie tennis splits matches with St. Edward's

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron tennis teams split a pair of regional matches on Saturday against St. Edward's, with the men winning 4-0 and the women falling 4-2.
 
In the men's match, the No. 13 Aggies opened the match with a pair of 7-5 wins in doubles. The 22nd ranked pairing of Vinicius Santos and Julen Gutierrez took down No. 27 ranked duo of Anish Sriniketh and Chase Bartlett in the one spot. At No. 3 doubles, Oscar del Granado and Pierre Marion beat their counterparts to give CU a 1-0 lead.
 
Cameron used wins at the two, three, and four spots to secure the 4-0 win. At No. 4, del Granado earned the only two set win, taking down his opponent 6-4, 7-5. Mritunjay Badola won 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at the two spot, and Przemyslaw Zielinski came back from a 6-3 loss in set one with 6-1 and 6-4 wins in the final two sets to win his match at No. 3.
 
The Aggie women started out their match against the No. 25 ranked Hilltoppers down 1-0. Alisa Savina and Rebeka Velasova lost to the No. 3 ranked duo of Beth Hayward and Valentina Martinez 6-3 at the one spot, while Melany Opolz and Pilar Jaurena lost their match at the third spot by a score of 6-3 as well.
 
St. Edward's took a 3-0 lead with wins at the two and three singles spots, but Sarah Frendo gave CU life with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1. Savina won her match in the fourth spot 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 to get CU to within one point heading into the final two matches. Unfortunately for CU, SEU earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 to secure the win.   
 
The Aggie men's win streak is now at 11 as they move to 14-3 on the season. CU's women are now 6-11 overall and have lost two straight matches.
 
Both teams will be on the road on April 2, as they visit Oklahoma Baptist for a pair of matches beginning at 3 p.m.
