LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie baseball team exploded four 17 runs in game one of their doubleheader against UT Permian Basin on Saturday before falling in game two 3-0 to split the day.
Cameron's offense came alive for 17 runs on 10 hits in game one of the doubleheader.
After UTPB got on the board with one run in the top of the first, Cameron answered with six runs in the bottom of the second. One of the runs came in to score on a
Hayden Jaco singled and then two more scored on an infield single off the bat of
Tyler Wood. Â
The Falcons got a pair back in the top of the third, but CU answered them with one run on a
Jaylan Prince RBI single in the bottom of the frame.
UTPB's last run of the game came in the top of the fourth, which was also answered with another CU run in the bottom half via a
Dillon Turney RBI double.
From there, the Aggies really broke it open, scoring three runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth. Three of CU's runs in the sixth came on
Izrael Trevino's third homer of the season and two more scored on a two RBI double from
Pierce Khan.
Brody Curry and
Drew Henderson combined for seven strong innings, with Curry giving up just one earned run with four strikeouts in four innings, while Henderson getting the save after pitching three, one-hit, innings with a pair of K's.
The second game of the doubleheader was dominated by UTPB's starter Alex Rivera. The senior went all seven innings, giving up just three hits and walking three while also striking out eight.
UT Permian Basin scored their three runs on a bases loaded walk in the fourth and then a pair of RBI hits in the top of the sixth. They totaled 10 hits in the game.
CU's
Abel Rosario received the loss, giving up two earned on seven hits in his five innings of work. The junior also struck out three, which combined with
Sean Maher's one and
Joseph Flood's two in the final two innings gave Cameron nine K's combined in the contest.
Trevino had a solid day at the plate for the Aggies, going 3-6 with three runs scored and four RBI. Jaco was also 3-6 on two runs scored and three driven in. Additionally, Bigford and Turney each had a pair of hits in the doubleheader.
Cameron is now 9-11 on the season and UTPB is 6-10. The two teams will meet up for the finale of the four game series on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
